In Chinese medicine, balance prevails. There are no ‘good’ and ‘bad’ emotions. An article written by Emma Suttie D.Ac., for acupuncture.com states the Chinese view of emotions perfectly (and gives some great grief processing tips too!).
Chinese medicine is concerned with grief that is repressed, unexpressed, expressed without control, or in the proper context. Emotions are only considered pathological when they are particularly intense, felt for prolonged periods, unacknowledged, or unexpressed.
Because grief is the emotion of the Lungs in Chinese medicine, it can cause Lung related issues. Asthma, cough, tightness in the chest, difficulty breathing and tightness in the muscles of the upper back and neck are a few things that happen as a result of unprocessed grief. The Lungs are also closely tied in with the skin in Chinese medicine, so skin disorders of any type are another thing that can appear because of ignored grief.
This is a simple acupressure technique that you can add to your arsenal of ways to help yourself if you feel like you need a hand moving through grief.
